Former world heavyweight boxing Champion Evander Holyfield was invited to Lagos to battle former Lagos state governor Bola Tinubu in a fight tagged 'Rumble in Lagos'.
The 54-year-old was set to fight the 'Jagaban' in the ring in Lagos exhibition match on Thursday, 25th of May at the landmark Event center, Oniru, Lagos. Tinubu was absent from the event which he was billed to fight the former world heavyweight champion.
Former boxing champion has reacted to inviting the American boxer instead of him for the exhibition match. The Nigerian boxing icon went to his Facebook and blasted the Lagos state governor for not inviting him for the exhibition bout to celebrate the 50th year anniversary of the creation of Lagos State.
He posted: “I was born and raised in Lagos. I am a world boxing champion, I have contributed to the economic growth of Nigeria through sport and I was rewarded with the highest national honour ever given to a Nigerian athlete, Officer of the Order of the Niger (OON)."
“American former world boxing champion, Evander Holyfield is in Lagos as a special guest of the government to celebrate Lagos at 50 and I am not invited. The labour of our heroes past shall never be in vain,” he added.
